A Garota Americana – Meg Cabot (All American Girl)

Eu poderia citar inúmeros motivos aqui para amar a Meg Cabot como já fiz em vários outros posts, mas me limitarei a contar porque peguei esse livro pra ler essa semana e porque achei ele muito fofo como todos os outros que já li da Meg.
Tudo começou quando uma amiga do trabalho me passou vários arquivos de kindle de váriosss livros da Meg que eu não tenho físicos (o motivo principal para tal, os livros dela são exorbitantemente caros. A Galera Record enfia a faca sem dó nos consumidores). Enfim, salvei e tenho o objetivo de ler todos eles em determinado momento. Daí essa semana tava vendo algum vídeo da Pam que ela fala que esse foi o primeiro livro da Meg que ela leu quando era adolescente e tipo, foi a melhor experiência ever e coisa e tal, e então me peguei pensando na sensação idêntica que tive lendo Avalon High, meu primeiro livro lido da Meg, e enfim, decidi que ia ler o Garota Americana pois era um dos que eu sempre quis pegar mas nunca o fiz pelo motivo acima descrito.
E gente, é tão legal! E eu não consigo parar de pensar que se tivesse lido isso quando era adolescente, eu só idolatraria a Meg ainda mais. Juro que lendo as viagens da Samantha na história me lembrei TANTO de eu mesma no 3o colegial quando eu achava que gostava de um cara, só que não, era tudo ilusão da minha cabecinha adolescente. Ah, o mundo adolescente! tudo são certo e ao mesmo tempo tão volátil. Hoje em dia, e conforme a idade passa, você vê, você amadurece, mas a Meg consegue retratar como ninguém as neuras malucas que existem na cabeça dos adolescentes.
A história deste livro é narrada pela Samantha, uma menina ruivinha que adora se vestir toda de preto que possui uma veia artística muito boa. Ela se mete numa baita aventura que vai mudar completamente o rumo de sua vida num dia em que resolve faltar de sua aula de desenho. Ela acaba salvando o presidente dos EUA de um atentado e passa do dia pra noite de desconhecida e ignorada por todos, para a menina mais conhecida do país.

Motivos pelos quais adorei a história:
1) A Samantha faz listinhas de 10 motivos pelos quais ela acha alguma coisa. Adorei esse formato de pausar a narrativa e inserir listas enfatizando a opinião da narradora a respeito do que está acontecendo.
2)A teoria que ela descreve sobre os canhotos serem todos gêmeos quando começaram a se formar foi muito engraçada e curiosa. Eu nunca havia visto nada a respeito desta teoria em específico, mas achei bacana. Eu sou canhota então rolou uma identifação aí com o assunto.
3) A Samantha é a irmã do meio de três meninas e é toda artista, adora desenhar e coisa e tal. E a minha irmã do meio é artista formada em Artes Plásticas até. Rolou uma identificação parte 2.
4) A história se passa em Washington DC, e várias coisas que ela descreve eu vivi enquanto morei lá no meu ano de intercâmbio. Rolou uma identificação parte 3.
5)Fiquei super pensando se quando Samantha fala sobre a paixão por desenhar não seria a própria Meg falando a respeito do assunto, já que ela tentou ser ilustradora antes de se tornar uma escritora. Será!?

I could enumerate many reasons here to love Meg Cabot as I have done in several other posts, but I will limit myself to tell you why I picked up this book to read this week and the reason I found it very cute like everyone else I have ever read from Meg.
It all started when a friend at work gave me several kindle files from books of Meg that I have no physical copies (the main reason for this, her books are exorbitantly expensive. Galera Record sticks a knife mercilessly in their customers). Anyway, I saved all the files and have the goal of reading all of them at some point. Then, during this last week was watching a video from Pam’s channel and she says that this was the first book of Meg that she read as a teenager, and it was the best experience ever, and then I found myself thinking about the same feeling I had when I was reading Avalon High, my first book read Meg, and finally I decided I was going to read All American Girl because it was one I always wanted to read but never made due to the above reason.
And people, it is so cool! And I can not stop thinking that if I had read it as a teenager, I would just think Meg was my God. I swear that by reading of Samantha’s adventures in the story I SO remembered of myself in high school when I thought I liked a guy, but not, because it was all illusion of my teenage little head. Ah, the teenage world! Everything is so right and yet so volatile. Currently, and as the time goes by, you see, you mature, but Meg can portray as anyone else the craziness and neurotic facts that exist on the teenage minds.
The story of this book is narrated by Samantha a little redhead girl who loves to dress all in black that has a very good artistic vein. She gets a hell of adventure that will completely change the course of her life on a day that she decides to ditch her drawing class. She ends up saving the US president from an assassination attempt and goes from day to night from unknown and ignored by all to the most famous girl in the country.

Reasons why I loved the story:
1) Samantha does some lists of 10 reasons why she thinks something. I loved this format to pause the narrative and insert lists emphasizing the view of the narrator for what’s going on.
2) The theory that she describes about lefties are all twins when they started to form was very funny and curious. I had never seen anything about this theory in particular, but I thought it cool. I am left-handed so an identification happened.
3) Samantha is the middle sister of three girls and it’s an artist, loves to draw and do all this kind of stuff. And my middle sister is an artist graduated in Arts so identification #2 happened.
4) The story takes place in Washington DC, and several things she describes I lived while I was there on my exchange year. identification #3 happened.
5) I was super thinking when Samantha talks about her passion for drawing if it wouldn’t be Meg herself talking about the subject, since in real life she tried to be an illustrator before becoming a writer. Would it be?
