Note: This is a re-reading of the book, therefore may contain SPOILERS along it, since I’m making comments about the whole book and details I noticed with the second reading. If you have not read Harry Potter, it is best to read it first.

After the first reading of 2016, I can only think it was an excellent idea to start the year with Harry.
It’s no secret my love for this story, and even though I have re-read the books about 5 times each, it has passed certainly five years that I did not re-read any of them. As the policy here is re-read to see if the book is still worth for me, there I went.
In the early chapters I remembered and recalled many cool things.
The fact that Hagrid came up with a flying motorcycle and mentioned that Sirius lent him is one of them. The first time you read this part you don’t even pay attention to it because Sirius is a character that will be explained in the third book. Until then you had probably forgotten that read his name in the first book. But it’s there. As well as the name of most of Harry’s colleagues, who throughout the story have fundamental holes in several episodes. Each of them is mentioned at least to some extent. and it makes you realise how JK had ALL planned from the first book INDEED!
I thought very funny when before coming to Hogwarts Harry had a brief explanation from Hagrid over the houses, and he at first thinks he will be selected for Hufflepuff. Everyone makes fun of this house, but Harry himself thought he would end up there at first.
Another very creepy part that I did not remember was that before coming to Hogwarts, after coming across Quirrell on the road to Diagon Alley, Harry dreams that he’s wearing Quirrell’s turban (note there – you know very well who was under his turban) and it is speaking to Harry to transfer to Slytherin because there is his place. OK OK, if this is not a hint of JK at the very beginning of the book that Quirrell and his turban has something rotten, I do not know what’s tip. But … I did not notice it the first time I read the book, definitely.
The most touching part perhaps it’s when Harry sees his parents and the whole family (grandparents etc) in the Mirror of Erised, and when he has to leave the room and tells Lily that he will return. It really is heartbreaking.
I was even talking to a good friend (Cecilia) this weekend, and she considers this part the most touching part for her in all the books. Particularly, I do not know what was the most touching for me. I have many that have caused me a lot of emotion, but never stopped to think and sort the most touching. It was then that I agreed that I will decided which one it is after re-reading the 7 books. (Challenge Accepted, as says Barney Stinson)
It also has the part where Harry thinks Snape can read minds because he knew exactly what Harry was thinking at the time, and I can not help thinking that it was a little preparation for the mega powers of Snape in Oclumency to be developed the fifth book.
Harry’s speech to Ron and Hermione at night when they think the stone will be stolen and he has to go stop, it’s the most precious thing. There you see how brave, selfless and reckless Harry is, and for me it was definitely the moment when I knew that the character had conquered me.

“…Don’t you understand If Snape gets hold of the Stone, Voldemort’s cominng back! Haven’t you heard what it was like when he was trying to take over? There won’t be any Hogwarts to get expelled from! He’ll flatten it, or turn it into a school of dark arts! Losing points doesn’t matter any more, can’t you see? D’you think he’ll leave you and your family alone if Gryffindor win the House Cup? If I get caught before I can get to the Stone, well, I’ll have to go back to the Dursleys and wait for Voldemort to find me there. It’s only a bit later than I would have done, because I’m never going over to the Dark Side! I’m going through that trapdoor tonight and nothing you two say is going to stop me! Voldemort killed my parents, remember?”

That part he speaks it is a matter of time before Voldemort finds him at Hogwarts or at the Dursleys it’s really deep. Refers to the very destination already planned and plotted on prophecy that we will come to know in the 5th book, which is that one of the two would have to kill the other. You already see that even Harry not knowing about it, there’s a part of him that knows that a confrontation between the two is inevitable.

Finally, after all these notes I can say that it is extremely rewarding to re-read because it is here that you’ll notice little details that make all the difference in history. Sort of like the people make with the movies, and there are people who can discover even errors in their midst. It is good too because by reading the same book in different stages of your life you will get new impressions about it. It’s good for you to see how you change your mind over time. But this is a subject to a specific post I think, benefits of re-reading … by the way, I already have a post that talks why I re-read books. (Why do I re-read books?)
