NOTE: If you have not read The Red Queen, do not read the review below as you will surely be reading some SPOILER.

I was curious to read the continuation since I finished The Red Queen a while ago. I imagined many possibilities for continuation of the story, but I confess that almost nothing I read in The Glass Sword was like I imagined. The author is taking a completely different path from other royal dystopia trilogies I have ever read.
At the end of the first book we see the great betrayal of prince Maven who united with his mother Elara and made Prince Cal kill his own father and settled a trap to him, Mare and the Scarlet Guard in an invasion that ends up being destroyed by this betrayal. Mare and Cal manage to escape, but all that happens after it is much in the air.
In this second book, we see Mare and Cal relating directly to the Guard Scarlet, and at one point of the story Mare will go out searching for “new bloods” like her, since Maven’s plans are to find all the names on Julian’s list and kill them all so this new mutation has no chance to succeed.
The interesting part of this second book is that we see the character of Mare change completely. If you compare what she thinks in the beginning of the first book and what she thinks at the end of the second you’ll notice a huge change, and you will be questioning yourself if “is this end well?”
For me Mare is being totally Vader’s vibe. And the story will not have a happy ending after all that has been presented in this second volume, but as Victoria surprised me in this second part, I will eagerly look forward to read the conclusion of this interesting plot she wrote. Counting down the days.

SPOILER ALERT
*****************
For me a Mare will get screwed in the end of the story. There, I said it. Or, worse, she will lose everyone she loves and will be completely alone, which is already kind of happening.
Her conversation with Cal at the end of this book is awesome. Cal tells all we would like to tell in her face but can not because we’re only readers and viewers. Mare is gradually becoming a selfish and insensitive person, OK we understand that her life was not easy, but life is made of choices and even now she is choosing wrong to me. Just give a look on all heroines in the stories that we have. Katniss, for example, she’s a pain in the ass but at no time she ceases to think of Peeta, her sister … she cares about people, something that Mare, every page we turn, we see that is caring less and less about everyone and trying to justify everything with an “I am the victim of the world.”
When they will break into the prison to set the new bloods free I totally thought that Shade would die. I just couldn’t imagine that he would die to save a Mare.
And another thing, Farley is pregnant from Shade, isn’t she? For me it was very obvious in the book and the only person who couldn’t noticed was Mare because she’s too busy thinking about her own nose.
