Olho por Olho – Jenny Han e Siobhan Vivian (Burn for Burn)

Confesso que me surpreendi com esse livro, no sentido de que quando peguei pra ler pensei ser algo bem light, só que não.
Lendo a sinopse pensei que o livro era apenas sobre um plano de vingança adolescente e as meninas envolvidas tendo que lidar com suas atitudes, mas achei que a história é bem mais profunda que isso e toca em muitos pontos sensíveis.
Kat, Mary e Lilia decidem se unir para em segredo bolar vinganças contra pessoas que fizeram mal a elas no presente ou passado. Todas tem bons motivos para querer se vingar, exceto Lilia na minha opinião.
Talvez eu tenha me identificado muito com Kat e Mary por conta do bullying que elas sofrem na história, mas achei tudo relacionado a Mary muito mais interessante.
Todo o clima pesado que há nesta personagem diz muito mais ao público do que apenas vingança e consequências. Essa personagem mostra o lado negro de alguém com uma auto-estima mega abalada. Além disso vemos que ela tem genes depressivos na família já que sua tia é mencionada como sendo depressiva na história mesmo não tendo motivos aparentes para isso ( gente, depressão é doença mesmo que muita gente custe a admitir e a predisposição é passada nos seus genes sim! minha família e eu somos a prova viva disso).
Também achei muito legal o tema do pré-conceito sobre as pessoas ter sido bem explorado. Kat e Lilia se precipitam muito em suas conclusões e enfim, acabam tomando atitudes que poderiam ter sido evitadas caso o temperamento intenpestivo não tivesse vencido.
O livro termina de uma maneira que você não imagina e claro te dá vontade de ler o segundo volume da trilogia, o qual obviamente já comecei hehe.
O texto da Jenny e da Siobhan é muito claro, dinâmico, e você lê muito rápido pois como os capítulos são narrados cada vez por uma das três meninas, você sempre quer saber o que a outra está pensando e é estimulado a continuar a leitura para descobrir. Uma forma muito legal de te prender por mais tempo que o usual.
Agora pra mim o ponto alto de ter lido essa tradução que emprestei da Talita foi a tradução e edição do livro. Cara, eu simplesmente adorei o jeito como o livro foi traduzido e editado. Não foram retirados ou substituídos termos extremamente americanos da história. Ao invés disso, há notas de rodapé explicando o que significa cada doce, feriado, faculdade etc típicos do país. Nenhum significa original então foi perdido. Editora Novo Conceito, tradutor Sylvio Deutsch e toda produção editoral pra mim estão mega de parabéns.

Achei que o REEVE fosse passar dessa pra melhor no final do livro, mas não. O caso do Alex me deixou meio com a pulga atrás da orelha. Achei que havia algo errado, ele não podia estar ficando com a irmã da Lilia…enfim, azar da Kat que perdeu um partidão por ser precipitada em seu julgamento. OK OK eu entendo, a menina passou por maus bocados na mão da turminha da Rennie, mas preconceito é uma faca de dois gumes.

I confess that I was surprised with this book, because when I started to read it I thought it was something very light, but it was not.
By reading the synopsis I thought the book was just about a teenager revenge plan and the girls involved having to deal with their attitudes, but I thought that the story is much deeper than that and it touches on many sensitive points.
Kat, Mary and Lilia decide to unite to come up with secret vendettas against people who harmed them in the past or present. All of them have good reason to want revenge, except Lilia in my opinion.
Maybe I identified myself with Kat and Mary because of the bullying they suffer in history, but I thought that everything related to Mary was much more interesting.
All the heavy atmosphere that there is in this character speaks more to the public than just revenge and consequences. This character shows the dark side of someone with a self-esteem shattered. Also we see that she has depressive genes in her family since her aunt is mentioned as being depressed in the story even if without apparent reasons (people, depression is a disease even though many costs to admit and predisposition is passed on their genes yes ! my family and I are living proof of that).
I also found pretty cool the prejudice theme being explored. Kat and Lilia are very precipitate in their conclusions and end up taking actions that could have been avoided if the untimely temperament had not won.
The book ends in a way that you can not imagine and of course makes you want to read the second volume of the trilogy, which obviously I already started to read hehe.
The text of Jenny and Siobhan is very clear, dynamic, and you read very fast because the chapters are narrated each time by one of the three girls, and you always want to know what the other is thinking and is encouraged to continue reading to discover. A very cool way to hold you longer than usual.
Now for me the top point of having read the translation that I borrowed from Talita was the translation and book editing. Man, I just loved the way the book was translated and edited. TThey didn’t remove or replace uany words with American meaning. Instead, there are footnotes explaining what each sweet, holiday, college etc typical of the country is. No original means were lost then. My congratulations to Publisher Nova Conceito, translator Sylvio Deutsch and all editorial production.

I thought REEVE would pass this for a better place at the end of the book, but no. The case of Alex let me through with a flea in the ear. I thought something was wrong, he could not be dating Lilia’s sister … well, too bad for Kat who lost a good guy for prejudice. OK OK I understand, the girl had a hard time in the hands of Rennie’s gang, but prejudice is a double-edged sword.
