It was our first from Collen in the book club, the third reading, and I can say the most heated discussion so far. I really enjoyed the story as a whole, and I think the spicier parts ended up being a consequence of the story as a whole too. I didn’t think anything was boring, on the contrary.

The text alternates between the narrative of Tate and Miles. It all starts when Tate moves in with her brother Corbin and faces a drunken guy in front of his apartment. Later she discovers that he is Miles, and besides being his brother’s neighbor, he is also a pilot and co-worker, since both work in the same airline.

Tate is very intrigued about Miles, since he appears to have no one special in his life. They both feel an attraction for each other that will cause them to start a very strange relationship since Miles tells Tate that he only accepts that they both have something if she never asks about his past and also does not want a future with him. All they have is the present.

While this story is happening the narrative of Miles is 6 years earlier, where he begins to tell how he fell in love with Rachel.

So you start questioning, what the hell happened to this Rachel that made him no longer wanting to have a future with any woman? And I assure you, you will read to the end wanting to find out, and my friend, in the middle of the story you will enjoy every moment of the reading.

Throughout the narrative you alternate your feelings about the characters (anger, pity, deception, compassion). And I assure you, you cannot stop reading the deal until you know why. My book club all read the book in pretty much 1 day. I’m affirming, you can’t stop reading, it’s kind of hypnotizing.

Finally, I want to highlight how Collen uses linguistic resources to tell her story. Sensational. In Miles’ narrative the whole text is centralized to give you an idea of poetry, since all the time he is in love. I thought it was great. Although the text itself is not poetry, only the ability to centralize it already takes you to another sphere of feeling and interpretation of the events. And there is a time in the story that this feature will be stopped and then you will feel this break. Awesome! She has gained me and I certainly want to read more of her books.

The criticism here is due to something that happened when we went to discuss the book at the club. We saw a PamdeBel video that they comment on the story, and it was funny because we totally disagree with everything they say, especially Bel. The video practically speaks bad stuff about the book, Bel says she did not like it, that Tate was annoying by not ending everything, that the end was predictable, she found ridiculous the format of “poetry” from Miles text (Which she did not understand by the way), but we felt that the end was not predictable and that Tate had two factors that led her not to finish everything with Miles, factors that many girls nowadays share which are low self-esteem and being in love. Guys, who never fucked up anything for being in love throw the first stone. The kind of woman Bel describes is simply the minority. Anyway, I found it hypocritical from her part to speak bad stuff about the book and then in a more recent video she mentions the author and the same book as something that inspired her to write her own book. I found it somewhat contradictory not to say false. Because of that I was a bit afraid to see her videos. I really like Pam and I think she’s been more neutral in her opinions, but Bel certainly made me not want to see more of her videos after these two.
