O irresistível café de cupcakes – Mary Simses (The Irresistible Blueberry Bakeshop)

Um livro gostosinho para se ler e que me lembrou muito o filme Dr Hollywood no início (pra quem não conhece tá aqui a referência à https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doc_Hollywood

A história do livro gira em torno de Ellen, que tem sua vida aparentemente toda programada, é uma advogada super bem-sucedida na carreira e prestes a se casar com um dos partidos mais cobiçados de Nova Iorque. Até que antes de morrer a avó lhe faz um último pedido: levar uma carta até Roy Cummings, que vivem em Beacon – Maine.

Ellen então embarca para a pequena cidadezinha e esta viagem irá mudar sua vida completamente. Lá, além de descobrir muitas coisas sobre o passado da avó que ela desconhecia, Ellen também irá entrar numa jornada de autoconhecimento e descobertas. Aquela vida aparentemente toda programada é então posta à prova.

O livro é fantástico no sentido de prender sua atenção. Apesar de você já sacar grande parte do plot principal da história desde o início, há muitas surpresas, principalmente com relação a vida da avó e de Roy Cummings. Nesse sentido eu fiquei relacionando muito a história também a outro filme, o Cartas para Julieta –> https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cartas_para_Julieta e se alguém que já viu o filme ler entenderá porquê.

Por mais previsível que a história seja há toques de imprevisibilidade nela e talvez por isso e pela escrita da autora ser muito fluída e dinâmica você não consiga largar a história. Li metade do livro enquanto fazia um exame de alergia que durou mais ou menos 2 horas.

Mais uma vez minha amiga Ari não me decepcionou com a indicação e o empréstimo. Valeu super a pena, tive que me conter para não rabiscar o livro dela já que havia muitas passagens engraçadas que eu gostaria de ter marcado.

Apenas uma crítica em relação ao final a qual não posso falar aqui pois seria um spoiler, então, caso alguém tenha lido a história, vou deixar o comentário abaixo.

Achei meio chato da parte da autora ter desenvolvido Ellen como amante da fotografia, ter feito tanta relação disso com o passado artístico da avó e como ela passou conhecimento a Ellen desde que lhe deu a 1ª maquinas fotográfica, e no final ela ter feito Ellen apenas abrir uma loja de cupcakes de blueberry. Depois que você lê a história toda acharia natural ela ter ficado em Beacon porém como fotógrafa.

A nice book to read which reminded me a lot the movie Dr Hollywood at first (for those who don’t know here is the reference à https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doc_Hollywood

The book’s story turns around Ellen, who has her life all planned, a super-successful lawyer career, and an upcoming marriage with one of New York’s most wanted man. Then her grandmother dies and as a last wish she asks Ellen to take a letter she wrote to Roy Cummings, who lives in Beacon – Maine.

Ellen then goes to the small town and this trip will completely change her life. There, besides discovering many things about the past of her grandmother that she did not know, Ellen will also enter a journey of self-knowledge and discovery. That apparently all-programmed life is then put to the test.

The book is fantastic in the sense of holding your attention. Although you have already drawn much of the main plot of the story from the beginning, there are many surprises, especially regarding the life of her grandmother and Roy Cummings. In this part I was very much relating the story to another film, Letters to Juliet -> https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cartas_para_Julieta someone who has seen the movie will understand why.

As predictable as the story is there are touches of unpredictability in it and perhaps because of this and because the author’s writing is very fluid and dynamic you cannot let go of the story. I read half the book while doing an allergy exam that lasted about 2 hours to be made.

Once again my friend Ari did not disappoint me with the advice and the book borrowed. The reading is worth, and I had to restrain myself from scribbling her book since there were many funny passages that I would have liked to have marked.

Just a criticism about something at the end which I cannot talk about here otherwise would be a spoiler, so if anyone has read the story, I’ll leave the comment below.

I found it annoying that the author developed Ellen as a photography lover, she made so much of this connection with her grandmother’s artistic past, and how her grandma taught everything about the art to Ellen since she gave her the first camera machine, and then in the end she made Ellen only opening a blueberry cupcakes bakeshop. After you read the whole story, it would have been natural for her to stay in Beacon, but as a photographer.
