#Girlboss – Sophia Amoruso
Sophia Amoruso was the type of person who did not stop at any job because she couldn’t commit or dedicate herself to anything that involved her being involved. She jumped from job to job without being able to imagine herself working in an office surrounded by people of her own free will. In fact, thinking about it was like thinking about the idea of what she didn’t want for her life.
It was when she was working in a place where she had the least possible responsibilities just to maintain health insurance that her life began to change. At that time, she decided to sell some of her clothes obtained in thrift stores first on MySpace then on eBay. As time passed she started to enjoy this activity and started to spend more time investing in it.
And that was how Nasty Gal was born, the page that used to sell thrift store items, and that 8 years later it would become a virtual store of more than 100 million dollars, with more than 350 employees, of which she is the founder, CEO and creative director.
Nowadays, Sophia not only works in an office every day of her own free will but also cannot imagine her life without everything she has built.
The book is narrated in a simple and practical way by Sophia, and among all the chapters in which we follow her life of totally without purpose for successful mega businesswoman we also find testimonies of several female employees and personalities who also narrate their trajectories until they found themselves in their professions.
I liked the premise that all of us women can be Girlbosses, because the meaning of that expression that Sophia tries to get through is to take control of your life, to do something worthwhile for yourself. In this sense, the book is very interesting, functioning as a starting point and / or inspiring for all who want to start something, whatever that is.
I would not read again because biographies are my weakness, I don’t like them very much, but I thought of many friends who would enjoy reading just as inspiration.
Oh, I also did not watch the Netflix series, and following advice from friends, I won’t do it because they say Sophia in the series is very “nasty” anyway. The tip is read the book instead of watching the series if you really want to be inspired and not nervous.
