Jane Eyre – Charlotte Brontë

Estou simplesmente encantada por este livro. Acho que ele passou a ser um dos melhores que li de todos os tempos, e quanto mais eu penso que ele foi escrito em 1847, ou seja, 171 anos atrás, mais eu gosto dele, pois nesta história encontramos elementos ainda muito presentes nas histórias escritas hoje em dia. Por isso, não me espanta em nada seu título de grande clássico.

Nessa autobiografia, Jane irá nos contar como foi sua infância junto a casa de uma família que não a queria, sua estadia de 8 anos no internato para meninas carentes de Lowood, seu primeiro emprego de governanta em Thornfield Hall, onde conhece Mr. Rochester, sua estadia na casa dos Rivers e seu segundo emprego até onde se encontra no momento em que começa a contar a história.

Olhando assim a primeira vista a história parece não ter muitos atrativos, mas engana-se quem pensa que irá ler um texto monótono, lamentativo ou romântico em excesso.

Jane Eyre é simplesmente a mulher que todas as mulheres, inclusive as de hoje em dia, queria ser. Ela é forte e independente apesar da vida difícil que teve. Ela é uma mulher de atitude.

A história é cheia de reviravoltas, mistérios e grandes surpresas. Eu me peguei surpresa com os rumos da vida de Jane em vários pontos.

O relacionamento dela com Mr Rochester também é fantasticamente inusitado. Eles tem diálogos  cheios de referências que muitas vezes só ambos entendem. Sem contar todo o humor e ironia contido neles.

Tudo que conseguia pensar enquanto lia a história era em como a Charlotte, vivendo onde viveu, tendo a vida que teve, conseguiu pensar em tudo isso.

Sério, todo mundo deveria ter a oportunidade de desfrutar desse texto tão magnífico em algum ponto de sua vida.

Eu além de ter adorado a história, adorei lê-la na versão bilíngue pois pude parar e comparar diversos pontos da tradução com o texto original. (Me julguem se quiserem!) Eu adoro esse tipo de comparação! Paixões da época da faculdade pois adorava todas as matérias relacionadas a tradução.

 

I am simply enchanted by this book. I think it happened to be one of the best I read of all time, and the more I think it was written in 1847, which means, 171 years ago, the more I like it, because in this story we find elements still very present in the stories currently written. That’s why I’m not surprised this is considered as a great classic.

In her autobiography Jane will tell us about her childhood at the house of a family that did not want her, her 8-year stay at Lowood’s boarding school, her first job as a governess at Thornfield Hall, where she meets Mr. Rochester, her stay at the Rivers’ home and her second job as far as she is at the moment she begins to tell her story.

Looking at the first glance the story does not seem to have many attractions, but it´s a mistake to think you will read a monotonous, regretful or romantic text in excess.

Jane Eyre is simply the woman that all women, including those of today, wanted to be. She is strong and independent despite the difficult life she has had. She is a woman of attitude.

The story is full of twists, mysteries and big surprises. I got caught up in the direction of Jane’s life at various points.

Her relationship with Mr Rochester is also fantastically unusual. They have dialogues full of references that often only both of them understand. Not to mention all the humor and irony they contained.

All I could think as I read the story was how Charlotte, living where she lived, having the life she had, could think of all this.
Seriously, everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy such a magnificent text at some point in their life.

In addition to having loved the story, I loved reading it in the bilingual version since I was able to stop and compare several points of the translation with the original text. (You can judge me if you want!) I love that kind of comparison! Passions I developed and liked a lot during college as well as all the subjects related to translation.
