As 5 linguagens do amor - Gary Chapman (The 5 Love Languages)

as 5 linguagens do amor

A book that EVERYONE should read. It’s that kind of content that is for life, you know !? So, even if you are not married, you can read and learn from it.

Gary says that people are moved by love, and that when you marry someone, you and your partner will be happy if they keep each other’s love tanks filled. The problem is that just like a spoken language, once you do not understand that each one fills their love tank in a different way, you will not be able to effectively fill the partner’s tank. So, you need to try to understand your partner’s language in the same way you learn to speak a foreign language.

At the beginning of the book we will understand the concept of passion and love. While passion is something involuntary and fleeting, love is defined as an attitude, a choice. And Gary says that love is a basic emotional need of the human being. We need to be loved by someone who chooses to love us, who sees something in us worthy of being loved. When your mate’s love tank is full and they feel secure in their love then the world will be their limit and they will surely have their highest potential in life.

Let’s list the languages and their definitions, but remember that although you can understand the main concept of each one here, reading the book is extremely useful because in it Gary will report cases of patients who have experienced issues because they didn’t speak these languages to each other , and believe me, it is much more didactic to learn by examples.

1) Words of Affirmation: There are people who need to be constantly supplied with affirmations, encouraging words, kind words to feel loved. For those who speak this type of language the tone of voice is very important and saying that you love, praise and especially encourage and estimulate your partner are fundamental points to be developed.

2) Quality Time:People who speak this type of language value the time that the partner spends to demonstrate the importance they have in their life. This time can be spent concentrating your attention on the activity you are developing, since the activity itself often does not matter, but the dedication of focused attention to them. They also like quality conversations  with no TV, cell phones, tablets and related stuff messing around. They like to feel that they are being 100% listened to.

3) Receiving Gifts:A gift is something that the person can look at and say that the other was thinking about them, that they remembered them, and for people who speak this language the present is a symbol of that thought. It does not matter whether it costs money or not. The important thing is that the person thought of you. The present is a visual symbol of love for each other.

4) Acts of Service:This language consists basically of doing things that the language-speaking partner would like us to do. Pleasure here comes through services, and love is expressed when you do things for the other person to help them in some way.

5) Physical touch:This is the most obvious language to people’s eyes. Those who speak this language need physical contact to feel loved and secure. Walking hand in hand, kissing, hugging, having sex are of great importance, and their lack drives the partner’s tank to empty.

Something important to note is that you usually discover your partner’s language by remembering what he or she complains about most. Complaints often denounce what they need most.

At the very end of the book we have the test for the husband and wife to make and discover their main and secondary language.

NOTE: If you wish to purchase something more specific to your current situation, Gary has released several other versions of the subject (for children, teens, singles, etc.)
