Verity – Colleen Hoover

A Colleen não cansa de nos surpreender. Quando você acha que ela já escreveu sua masterpiece com É assim que acaba, ela vem e lança Verity, pra mim o melhor livro dela até agora (sim mudei de preferido porque gente, não dá a mulher melhora a cada livro).

Nós temos aqui algo bem diferente dos livros anteriores, já que esta história é um suspense com um romance (só os melhores gêneros junto!), e justamente por ser tão diferente do que ela fez até hoje Colleen lançou o livro de forma independente.  Sério, eu respeito muito essa mulher. Você vê no jeito dela, nas atitudes que it’s not about the money sabe, it’s about writing.

Nós iremos conhecer Lowen, um escritora que está super na pior pois acabou de perder a mãe e está a muito tempo sem escrever nada.

Algo inesperado acontece quando ela sai de casa pela primeira vez após a morte da mãe para encontrar com seu agente literário, e ela conhece um homem que ajuda neste momento e que mais tarde ela descobrirá ser a pessoa que pediu uma reunião com ela para lhe fazer uma proposta. Seu nome é Jeremy Crawford, marido de Verity Crawford, uma escritora super famosa, a qual sofreu um acidente e não pode terminar de escrever uma série de livros que ela ainda não havia finalizado. Jeremy e seus advogados vieram propor a Lowen escrever os livros finais e assiná-los como co-autora.

A princípio Low pensa em recusar já que ela odeia fama, mas Jeremy acaba a convencendo e ela tomada pela simpatia adquirida por ele antes da reunião acaba aceitando a proposta. Para conseguir escrever as continuações Low terá que ir para Vermont, onde Verity e Jeremy moram para procurar em seu escritório anotações que ela possa ter deixado a respeito da série.

Por conta da sua situação financeira, principalmente, Low acaba tendo que ficar na casa mais tempo do que os dois dias que havia planejado, e em suas pesquisas no escritório de Verity descobre um manuscrito de uma autobiografia que ela estava escrevendo e começa a lê-lo.

Low irá então descobrir que Verity não é bem a pessoa que Jeremy pensa que ela é, e que alguns acidentes relacionados aquela família e aquela casa podem não ter sido tão acidentais. Quanto mais Low lê mais coisas estranhas começam a acontecer na casa, e ao mesmo tempo que ela não consegue largar a história também quer sair de lá o quanto antes.

Que suspense, meus amigos! Olha, você lê com o coração na boca. E o romance  pra mim deu o toque final sabe, a história é perfeita, o mistério é sensacional, e as questões levantadas estão de parabéns. Não vejo a hora de poder debater com as meninas do meu clube do livro a questão do autor e sua obra/personagens. Até que ponto os personagens criados pelo escritor se relacionam diretamente com sua personalidade? É possível criar algo que foge a sua interpretação? Sério, estou muito animada para esse debate.

Quanto a ler ou não ler, na boa, peguem esse livro em inglês mesmo e mandem ver porque a história valerá o esforço. Nota dez e vai pro hall daqueles que indicarei pra todo mundo.

Colleen is not tired of surprising us. When you think she already wrote her masterpiece with It Ends With Us, she releases Verity, for me her best book so far (yes I’ve changed favorite place because people, this woman becomes better with each book).

We have here something quite different from the previous books, since this story is a thriller with a romance(only the best genres together!), And precisely because it is so different from what she uses to publish Colleen published the book independently. Seriously, I respect this woman very much. You see in her way, in her attitudes that it’s not about the money you know, it’s about writing.

We will meet Lowen, a writer who is in her worst moment because she just lost her mother and she spent a long time without writing anything.

Something unexpected happens when she leaves the house for the first time after her mother’s death to meet with her literary agent, and she meets a man who helps in this moment and who later will discover she is the person who asked to meet her to make her a proposal. Her name is Jeremy Crawford, the husband of Verity Crawford, a super-famous writer, who has suffered an accident and can not finish writing a series of books she has not yet finished. Jeremy and his lawyers came to propose to Lowen to write the final books and sign them as co-author.

At first Low thinks about refusing since she hates fame, but Jeremy ends up convincing her and she, taken by the sympathy acquired by him before the meeting ends up accepting the proposal. In order to write the sequels Low will have to go to Vermont, where Verity and Jeremy live, to look in her office for notes she may have left about the series.

Because of her financial situation, Low ends up staying in the house longer than the two days she had planned, and in her research at Verity’s office she finds out a manuscript of an autobiography she was writing and begins to read it.

Low will then discover that Verity is not quite the person Jeremy thinks she is, and that some accidents related to that family and that house may not have been so accidental. The more Low reads stranger things begin to happen in the house, and at the same time she can not let go of the story, she wants to get out of there as soon as possible.

What a thriller my friends! You read with your heart in your mouth. And the romance, in my opinion, gave the final touch you know, the story is perfect, the mystery is sensational, and the issues raised are to be congratulated. I can not wait to discuss with the girls in my book club the issue of the authors and their work/characters. To what extent do the characters created by writers relate directly to their personality? Is it possible to create something that escapes their interpretation? Seriously, I’m very excited for this debate.

As for reading or not reading, pick this book in English and discover why the story is worth the effort (anyway, for those who are not native speakers at least). I give it a ten stars and I’ll sure recommend the book to everyone I know.
