THOR: Ragnarok – Quadrinhos e cinema

A Marvel trouxe a mitologia nórdica para os quadrinhos, mostrando deuses como Odin, Thor e Loki como uma raça alienígena super mega desenvolvida, a qual pelos humanos não conseguirem entender  acabavam chamando-os de deuses.

Thor acaba vivendo muito na Terra, onde acaba eventualmente se tornando um Avenger, e enfim, os quadrinhos vão usando de vários artifícios para justificar sua presença aqui nas aventuras contadas.

Quando falamos de Ragnarok da mitologia, falamos em morte dos Deuses e fim de Asgard como ela é.  E nesse compilado de 7 revistinhas, que culminarão no Ragnarok feito para os quadrinhos temos vários aspectos da história original mantidos.

Exemplos disso são que em ambas as histórias o Ragnarok começa com a morte do deus Baldor através de um flecha de vinha encantada por Loki. O que não vemos no filme por exemplo, já que lá a história do Ragnarok está sendo mesclada com os quadrinhos do planeta Hulk.

Já a invasão de Asgard por Hela é um ponto que temos em comum entre os 3 universos: mitologia, quadrinhos e filme. Na mitologia ela invade Asgard com seu exército de mortos (todos que habitam o seu reino), nos quadrinhos temos um exército de trolls a acompanhando, e no filme  vemos mortos também. Talvez o único ponto fiel que o filme possua quanto ao Ragnarok em si.

Um ponto não muito explorado tanto nos quadrinhos quanto nos filmes é o do Fenrir. Ele aparece em ambos mas super brevemente e como uma figura meio de figurante, enquanto na mitologia ele é o responsável pela morte de ninguém menos que Odin.

Na adaptação dos quadrinhos a presença dos humanos (nessa história que vai se passar quase que totalmente em Asgard) é dada por um grupo de jornalistas que com ajuda de Loki vão até Asgard meio que tentar fazer um documentário de como a vida dos deuses é. Esses humanos irão nos das uma perspectiva das nossas próprias indagações a respeito dessa história, e também tem um papel fundamental na resolução da história do Ragnarok nos quadrinhos.  Papel esse que pra mim foi meio que dado ao Hulk no filme.

Nos quadrinhos temos uma resolução que nos leva a Thor continuar sua vida na Terra por um tempo, o que abre margem para mais revistas e histórias em quadrinhos. Já no cinema o final é meio tenso e iremos ver Asgard sendo destruída mesmo. O povo sobrevivente foge em uma nave. O que no mundo do cinema será usado na continuação da história em Avengers Guerra Infinita.

Gente, eu como uma pessoa leiga em quadrinhos mas super curiosa e muito simpatizante da mitologia nórdica achei os quadrinhos extremamente legais. A leitura vale total a pena, e a única parte ruim é que não temos esse compilado traduzido. Eu o li em inglês mesmo.

Quanto ao filme, eu gostei dos filmes do Thor até agora, porém o Ragnarok foi o que na minha opinião mais pecou por errar totalmente no tom. Tudo bem que Thor no cinema é representado como uma figura mais bobona, diferente dos quadrinhos onde ele é todo culto e fala super difícil, mas encher um filme que fala sobre o fim dos Deuses e de Asgard  com piadinhas ficou meio estranho sabe, não combinou.

Enfim, apesar de tudo isso fica a minha recomendação para pelo menos a leitura dos quadrinhos, que valem sim super a pena. Os filmes podem ser vistos como extras.

THOR: Comics and Movies

Marvel brought the Nordic mythology to the comics, showing gods like Odin, Thor and Loki as a super-mega-developed alien race, which humans could not understand, so they ended up calling them gods.

Thor ends up living a lot on Earth, where he eventually becomes an Avenger, and finally, the comics use various devices to justify their presence here in the adventures told.

When we speak of Ragnarok’s mythology, we speak of the death of the Gods and the end of Asgard as it is. And in this compilation of 7 comic books, which will culminate in Ragnarok adapted for the comics we have several aspects of the original story kept.

Examples of this are that in both stories the Ragnarok begins with the death of the god Baldor through an arrow made of vine and enchanted by Loki. What we do not see in the film for example, since there the Ragnarok is being mixed with the  Planet Hulk comics.

While the invasion of Asgard by Hela is a point that we have in common between the 3 universes: mythology, comics and movie. In mythology she invades Asgard with her army of dead (everyone who inhabits her kingdom), in the comics we have an army of trolls, and in the movie we see dead as well. Maybe the only true point that the movie has about Ragnarok itself.

A point not explored so much in the comics and movies is the Fenrir. It appears in both universes but super briefly and as an extra, while in mythology it is responsible for the death of none other than Odin.

In the comics adaptation the presence of humans (since the story will happen almost totally in Asgard) is given by a group of journalists who with the help from Loki go to Asgard sort of trying to make a documentary of how the life of the gods is. These humans will give us a perspective of our own inquiries about this story, and they also play a key role in solving Ragnarok’s comic book story. Paper that for me was kind of given to the Hulk in the movie.

In comics we have a resolution that leads us to keep following  Thor’s life on Earth for a while, which opens the door to more magazines and comic books. While in the movies the end is a little tense and we will see Asgard being destroyed and the surviving people leaving in a spaceship. What in the movies world will be used in sequence Avengers Infinite War.

People, I like a person who knows very little about comics but that am super curious and very sympathetic of the Norse mythology found the comics extremely cool. The reading is totally worth it, and the only bad part is that we do not have this translated to Portuguese. I read it in English.

As for the film, I liked the Thor movies so far, but Ragnarok was the one that in my opinion most looked like totally missing the tone. It’s okay that Thor in the movies is portrayed as a sillier figure, different from comics where he is all worship and speaks super difficult, but filling a film that talks about the end of the Gods and Asgard with jokes was kind of strange you know, did not match .

Anyway, despite all my recommendation is for you guys at least to try reading the comics, which are worth super worth. Movies could be seen as an extra.
