Story Poster

There was no way I couldn’t read this book because it’s written by one of my biggest life crushes: Hank Green. And so far I still can’t decide which of the two I like best, I just can’t, I love John and him the same way :)

But let’s talk about the book, Hank’s first.

This book is a sci-fi and tells the story of a girl, April May, who finds out a robot in the middle of NYC returning from work, and after filming it with her best friend, Andy, and posting on YouTube she sees her life turns inside out from day to night because she discovers that the robot she calls Carl has appeared in many places around the world. And since she was the first to post about it, she turns into some sort of a reference on the subject and the whole world comes to know who April May is.

The whole story is very curious, you know, besides you want to know what the hell these robots “aliens” want, you also get caught up in the story of April herself who is famous from day to night and has to deal with the consequences of being a celebrity.

And the coolest thing for me was to see the way April communicates with us readers (the book is narrated 1st person). She makes it clear from the beginning that we can get a bit mad at her, so she tries to justify herself all the time while telling the events and talking about the attitudes she takes. It’s kind of comical to see how much she tries to keep us from getting pissed off at her.

And for me, just because of this strategy developed so well in the story, I already give 5 stars to Hank, after all, it’s not anyone who gets such an effect in his first book. The guy writes so damn good!

The ending is kinda opened to several interpretations, but we already know that Hank will write a sequel, so much of this “open” will probably be explained in this 2nd volume. Now we have to wait a while to learn more about the nature of the Carls.
