Deixe a neve cair (Let it Snow) – livro e filme

É de conhecimento geral que eu não curto muito livros de contos pois não encontro motivação para terminar a leitura de todos, porém neste caso abri uma exceção já que teríamos o filme, e principalmente porque esse era um dos livros do John Green que ainda não tinha sido riscado da minha lista. Agora, só falta Will Grayson e depois poderei dizer que já li tudo dele.

Mas falemos um pouco de cada conto.

O Expresso Jubileu vai trazer a história de uma menina chamada Jubileu, cujos pais foram presos na véspera do Natal por entrarem em uma briga por itens raros de uma coleção de peças de Natal. Por estar sozinha em casa, os pais madam que ela pegue o trem para a casa da avó, e esse trem ficará preso em uma cidadezinha no meio da viagem por conta da grande nevasca. Presa no trem e desesperada para fugir de um time de líderes de torcida, Jubileu sai do vagão e vai se abrigar em uma Waffle House logo a frente, onde conhece Stuart, que estava passando por lá no caminho de volta do trabalho(na Target) para casa. Tentando fugir novamente do time de líderes de torcida que também vai até a Waffle House se abrigar ela acaba indo passar o Natal na casa de Stuart com sua mãe e sua irmã.

O tempo que passando juntos vai unir os dois pois Jubileu percebe que o atual namorado não gosta mais dela enquanto Stuart conta de seu relacionamento recém terminado.

Já o milagre da torcida de Natal mostra três amigos nesta mesma cidade, JP, Duke e Tobin, que estão na casa de Tobin maratonando filmes, quando os amigos de JP ligam da Waffle House falando do time de líderes de torcida e pedindo pra eles levarem um jogo pra passarem o Natal todos lá. Como JP e Tobin curtem mto líderes de torcida eles decidem tentar a viagem louca no meio da nevasca até lá. e Duke vai junto porque como entenderemos é apaixonada por Tobin, e enfim, durante essa odisséia que será chegar até a Waffle House no meio da Nevasca, Tobin tmbém entenderá seus sentimentos por Duke.

O último conto, O Santo padroeiro dos Porcos, pra mim foi o mais ruinzinho. Achei que há história demais para um pequeno conto. Teremos a história de Addie e Jeb sendo contada, ao mesmo tempo em que também vemos a história de Addie com as amigas, principalmente uma dela a qual ela promete buscar um porquinho de estimação que foi encomendado e acaba esquecendo por conta do movimento em seu trabalho. Primeiro entendemos que Addie se separou de Jeb faz uma semana pois ela havia beijado outro menino e achou que Jeb não seria capaz de perdoá-la pelo erro pois por conta da nevasca ele acabou preso no trem e não apareceu no encontro que eles haviam marcado para conversar. Depois Jeb e meio esquecido e começamos a ler a história da amiga e do porquinho. Jeb e Addie só irão se encontrar no final da história para se entenderem novamente.

Agora falando  de filme o que digo é que não tem nem como comparar ambos pois ele é completamente diferente do contos do livro. Aliás, eu acho que a Netflix não deveria nem ter tratado o filme como adaptação do livro e sim inspirado na obra x já que todas as histórias tiveram eventos modificados, personagens com história e personalidade alterados, há personagens que não existiam inseridos e outros que participavam bem mais esquecidos no churrasco completamente. Ou seja, uma história nada que ver com a outra.

Masss eu adorei o filme! Achei que como história de filme mesmo sobre Natal, ele funciona super bem. Se você assiste sem lente crítica para comparar com o livro vai com certeza achar legal. Agora, se cair na besteira de começar a comparar, aí ferrou porque como disse não dá nem pra comparar de tanto que ficou diferente.

It is common knowledge that I do not enjoy books of short stories because I find no motivation to finish reading the entire book, but in this case I made an exception since we would have the movie, and mainly because this was one  of John Green’s books that I haven’t crossed out from my list. Now, all that’s left is Will Grayson, and then I can say I’ve read all of him.

But let’s talk a little about each story.

The Jubilee Express will feature the story of a girl named Jubilee, whose parents were arrested on Christmas Eve for getting into a fight over rare items from a collection of Christmas pieces. Because she is home alone, her parents tell her to take the train to her grandmother’s house, and this train will be trapped in a small town in the middle of the trip because of heavy snowfall. Trapped on the train and desperate to get away from a team of cheerleaders, Jubilee gets out of the wagon and takes shelter in a Waffle House just ahead, where she meets Stuart, who was passing by on his way home from work (at Target). Trying to escape again from the cheer leading team that also goes to the Waffle House for shelter, she ends up spending Christmas at Stuart’s house with his mother and sister.

The time spent at the same roof will bring the two together as Jubilee realizes that her current boyfriend no longer likes her , and as Stuart tells of his newly broken relationship.

A Cheertastic Christmas Miracle shows three friends in the same town, JP, Duke and Tobin, who are at Tobin’s house marathoning movies, when JP’s friends call from Waffle House talking about the cheer leading team and asking them to take a board game to spend Christmas all there together. Since JP and Tobin like so much cheerleaders they decide to try the crazy trip through the blizzard out there. and Duke goes along because, as we will understand, she is in love with Tobin, and finally, during this odyssey that will be arriving at the Waffle House in the middle of the Blizzard, Tobin will also understand his feelings for Duke.

The last story, The Patron Saint of Pigs, was the worst of the three for me. I thought there was too much history for a short tale. We will have the story of Addie and Jeb apart, while we also see the story of Addie with her friends, especially the one she promises to get a pet that was commissioned and ends up forgetting about it due to thw workload pf her job. First we understand that Addie broke up with Jeb a week ago because she had kissed another boy and thought Jeb wouldn’t be able to forgive her because of the blizzard he got stuck on the train and didn’t show up at the meeting they had scheduled to talk. Then Jeb is half forgotten and we start reading the story of her friend and the piggy. Jeb and Addie will only meet at the end of the story to get along again.

Now speaking of the movie what I say is that there is no way to compare both because they are completely different from the stories of the book. By the way, I think Netflix should not have even treated the film as an adaptation of the book but rather inspired by the work x since all the stories had modified events, characters with altered history and personality, there were characters that did not exist and others who participated much more forgotten completely. That is, one story nothing to do with the other.

But I loved the movie! I thought that as a movie the Christmas story works super well. If you watch without critical lens to compare with the book you will definitely find it cool. Now, if I you start to compare, then you’ll be really pissed because as I said you can not even starting to compare so much that it was different.
