Regretting You – Colleen Hoover

Não poderia terminar o ano sem ler o livro mais fresquinho da Colleen Hoover. E com isso posso dizer que comecei e terminei 2019 com livros maravilhosos da mesma autora.

Comecei lá em janeiro lendo Verity, meu preferido dela desde então, e agora termino lendo Regretting You, que apesar de ter uma pegada completamente diferente de Verity me manteve presa do início ao fim.

Nesse livro nós iremos acompanhar a história sob a perspectiva de duas personagens, uma adulta – Morgan, nos seus 34 anos, e outra adolescente- Clara, nos seus quase 17.

Lá pelos 22% de leitura (lembrando que li no kindle), um acontecimento repentino irá nortear a vida de ambas até o final da história. Morgan é mãe de Clara, e muito do que iremos acompanhar ao longo do livro é em relação a essa ligação delas que estará digamos que abalada.

Morgan terá uma pessoa do passado reaparecendo em sua vida, e a partir dessa primeira reviravolta irá começar a questionar o que fez de sua vida até aquele momento, se foi certo, se foi errado, se há tempo para recomeçar, para se descobrir, para tentar fazer coisas por ela já que a maioria de sua vida sempre foi norteada por Clara.

Já Clara, como toda boa adolescente, estará naquela fase de questionar atitudes de todos os adultos ao seu redor – principalmente da mãe – e claro, descobrir o primeiro amor. Ela irá se apaixonar um Miller, mas claro que a relação de ambos virá com todo dramalhão adolescente possível, porque nada é simples nessa idade 😉

Não falarei mais que isso para não dar nenhum spoiler. Esse é o tipo de história que quanto menos você souber maior será o impacto de tudo que você descobrir.

O que posso dizer é que Colleen nunca esteve melhor no quesito desenvolvimento psicológico de personagens como neste livro. Temos questionamentos sendo levantados que com certeza você irá se identificar, eu particularmente me via em muitos questionamentos da Morgan.  Ela foi uma personagem que por mais que eu não concordasse com várias escolhas eu entendia cada uma delas.  Já Clara me lembrava muito do meu temperamento jovem intempestivo e de sempre achar que era ou tudo ou nada. Ah o radicalismo jovem…hehehe.

O fato é que Colleen só melhora a cada obra, é impressionante.  Já estou louca pelo próximo, pois como sempre digo leio até bula de remédio se ela escrever. Se você não leu nada desta autora até hoje, para tudo, vai pegar algo dela porque você não sabe o que está perdendo. I couldn’t end the year without reading Colleen Hoover’s last book released. And because of that I can say that I started and ended 2019 reading wonderful books by the same author.

I started January reading Verity, my favorite of her ever since, and now I end up December reading Regretting You, which despite having a completely different style than Verity kept me stuck from begining to end.

In this book we will follow the story from the perspective of two characters, one adult – Morgan,  34 years old, and another teenager – Clara, almost 17 years old.

By 22% of reading (remembering that I read in kindle), a sudden event will guide their lives until the end of the story. Morgan is Clara’s mother, and much of what we will follow throughout the book is about this connection of them that will be shaken.

Morgan will have a person of her past reappearing in her life, and after that sudden happening she will begin to question what she did of her life so far, if it was right, if it was wrong, if there is time to start over, to find out who she really is, trying to do things for her since most of her life has always been guided by Clara.

ThenClara, like every good teenager, will be in that phase of questioning the attitudes of all the adults around her – especially her mother – and of course, discovering her first love. She will fall in love with a Miller, but of course their relationship will come with every teen drama possible, because nothing is simple at that age;)

I will not say more than that to give no spoiler. This is the kind of story that the less you know the greater is the impact of everything you discover.

What I can tell is that Colleen has never been better at psychological character development than in this book. We have questions being raised that you are sure going to identify with, I particularly saw myself in many of Morgan questions. She was a character that, as much as I didn’t agree with several choices, I understood each one. Now Clara reminded me a lot of my untimely young temperament and always thinking it was or all or nothing. Oh the young radicalism … hehehe.

The fact is that Colleen only gets better with each work, it’s impressive. I am already crazy about the next one, because as I always say, I would read a medical prescription if she writes it. If you have not read anything from this author to this day, stop everything you’re doing, and go get something from her because you don’t know what you’re missing.
