The Dare – Elle Kennedy (#4 spin off Briar U)

Último livro da série Briar U, e provavelmente do universo da Briar por comentários da própria Elle no seu IG.  Ela disse que possivelmente escreva algum conto sobre os personagem tanto da série Amores Improváveis quanto da Briar U mas que de livros mesmo este foi o último.

E o que podemos falar de The Dare? Com certeza pra mim ele teve a mesma vibe do primeiro livro da série, o The Chase. Pois os personagens apesar de passarem uma imagem super cool deles por fora, na intimidade eles vivem enormes conflitos interiores.

A história começa com Taylor chegando em Conor para pedir encarecidamente que ele finja ficar com ela já que ela precisa cumprir esse Dare (desafio) que as colegas de fraternidade dela fizeram. Conor intrigadíssimo com a postura de Taylor de realmente não querer ficar com ele, só que ele a ajude a cumprir o tal dare acaba aceitando ajudá-la.

Os dois acabam passando a noite no quarto da fraternindade depois de se conectarem muito no papo. Conor até insinua ficar com Taylor de verdade, mas ela fala que não tem problema não ele não precisa fazer isso (porque ela realmente acha que ele não quer de verdade – e aí começamos a ver as issues).

Depois de uma semana e pouco deste episódio Conor vai pegar uma colega bem da antagonista (Abigail) tirando sarro de Taylor em uma festa da universidade, e isso irá despertar o seu lado justiceiro. Ouvindo que óbvio que ele nunca iria querer algo a mais com alguém como Taylor, Conor então vai atrás dela para declarar “seu amor” e pedir uma chance para os dois ficarem.

Depois de explicar seu plano para Taylor, ela acaba concordando em ter um fake namoro com ele para provar pro pessoalzinho lá que falou mal dela que sim, ela pode sim namorar com Conor Edwards. E clarooo que eles vão acabar se apaixonando né gente (a melhor parte de todo livro que tenha um bom romance de história central).

E o legal do relacionamento dos dois é que um vai meio que ajudar o outro a superar suas encanações sabe. Achei isso muito legal, porque vai ficando meio óbvio pra todo mundo, inclusive para eles, que eles são melhores quando estão juntos.

O mistério do livro gira em torno de um segredo que Conor guarda do seu passado. Segredo esse que faz ele ter grande partes das suas encanações atuais. E também por conta de um episódio de revenge porn que iremos acompanhar na fraternidade que Taylor faz parte. Mas não vou desenvolver muito esse assunto aqui porque não quero dar maiores spoilers.

Dito isso, The dare é um livro bem legal, porém não ganhou de The play na minha preferência.  Acho que em parte porque fiquei um pouco irritada com esse tanto de encanação tanto de Taylor quanto de Conor. Acho que fiquei sem paciência com eles em alguns momentos. O que não prejudicou em nada o fato de eu achar a história bem legal.

Se for classificar a série pela ordem de preferência eu diria que meu ranking ficaria assim: 1o lugar – The play, 2o lugar – The risk, 3o lugar – The Dare e 4o lugar – The Chase.

E é isso meus amigos, ficamos agora esperando algum conto desses personagens maravilhosos e a próxima série da Elle pra nos apaixonarmos por novos personagens.

PS. Acredito que a tradução do livro aqui deva sair lá pro final ou começo do próximo ano já que temos os 3 primeiros volumes já traduzidos e publicados.

Last book in the Briar U series, and probably from the Briar universe by Elle’s own comments on her IG. She said she might write a short story about the characters in both the Off-Campus ​​and Briar U series, but regarding solos books this was the last one.

And what can we talk about The Dare? For me it had the same vibe as the first book in the series, The Chase. Because despite the characters having a super cool image on the outside, in intimacy they live huge inner conflicts.

The story begins with Taylor coming to Conor to ask him earnestly to pretend to hook up with her since she needs to fulfill this Dare that her fraternity colleagues did. Conor extremely intrigued by Taylor’s intention of not really wanting to be with him, only that he helps her to fulfill this dare, ends up accepting to help her.

The two end up spending the night in one of the fraternity rooms after connecting a lot. Conor even insinuates to hook up with Taylor for real, but she says it’s okay, he doesn’t need to do that (because she really thinks he doesn’t really want to – and then we start to see the issues).

After a week or so of this episode, Conor will catch a colleague, more like an antagonist (Abigail), making fun of Taylor at a university party, and that will awaken his justice side. Hearing that it’s obvious that he would never want anything more with someone like Taylor, Conor then goes after her to declare “his love” and ask for a chance for the two of them to stay together.

After explaining his plan to Taylor, she ends up agreeing to have a fake dating with him to prove to the ones who said bad things about her that yes, she can indeed date Conor Edwards. And of course they will end up falling in love people (the best part of every book that has a good central romance story – love it).

And the cool thing about their relationship is that one will kind of help the other to overcome their issues, you know. I thought it was really cool, because it becomes very obvious to everyone, including them, that they are better when they are together.

The mystery of the book revolves around a secret that Conor keeps from his past. A secret that is the main cause of a lot of his recent issues. And also because of an episode of revenge porn that we will follow in the fraternity that Taylor is part of. But I’m not going to go into that much here because I don’t want to give out more spoilers.

That said, The dare is a really cool book, but it didn’t beat The Play in my preference. I think partly because I was a little irritated by these issues from both Taylor and Conor. I think I ran out of patience with them at times. Which didn’t hurt the fact that I thought the story was really cool.

If I rank the series in order of preference, I would say that my ranking would look like this: 1st place – The play, 2nd place – The risk, 3rd place – The Dare, and 4th place – The Chase.

And that’s it my friends, we are now waiting for some short story of these wonderful characters and Elle’s next series to fall in love with new characters.

PS. I believe that the translation of the book (to Portuguese) should be released in the end of the year or beginning of next year as we have the first 3 volumes already translated and published.
