Em outra vida, talvez? – Taylor Jenkins Reid (Maybe in Another Life)

Mais um livro da Taylor lido e mais um livro que adorei.

Hannah volta para LA depois de descobrir que seu último ex era na verdade casado e tinha outra família. Essa não é a primeira cidade que Hannah sai, antes disso ela já rodou o país morando em diversas cidades, mas nenhuma parece ser a certa para ela criar raízes. Como seus pais moram no exterior com sua irmã desde a época da high school, ela é recebida em LA por Gabby, sua melhor amiga, e vai morar com ela e o marido por uns tempos até decidir o que fará de sua vida.

Gabi e Mark levam Hannah então a uma festa em que Gabby chamou várias pessoas que estudavam com elas na high school. E lá Hannah acaba reencontrando  Ethan, seu ex-namorado que ela nunca havia superado. Ao final da festa então Ethan irá convidá-la a ficar mais um pouco na festa com ele, quando Gabby e Mark convidam Hannah para ir embora.

A partir daí as realidades vão se dividir e nós teremos duas linhas do tempo sendo contadas. Uma em que Hannah ficou com Ethan na festa e logicamente terminou junto com ele em seu apartamento, e outra em que ela foi embora com Gabby e Mark e acaba sendo atropelada no caminho de volta para casa ficando semanas e semanas num hospital sem conseguir se mexer direito. Lá ela conhece um enfermeiro que acabará se tornando seu novo interesse amoroso.

Em ambas as linhas muitas coisas acabam acontecendo porém não da mesma forma. É até engraçado acompanhar essas similaridades.

O final nos traz uma reflexão bem otimista a respeito das escolhas que fazemos em nossas vidas e eu gostei demais de como Taylor tratou a resolução da história. De todos os livros que mexem com a temática do tempo este com certeza se destacou por ter esse final mais aberto e otimista. Não pude deixar de lembrar de Uma curva no tempo lendo porém o final e a mensagem central das histórias são completamente diferentes.

Vale muito a pena a leitura e recomendo a todos que curtam essa temática temporal assim como eu.

Another Taylor’s book read and another book that I loved.

Hannah returns to LA after finding out that her last ex was actually married and had another family. This is not the first city that Hannah left behind, before that she had traveled the country living in several cities, but none seemed to be the right one for her to settle. Due to the fact that her parents have lived abroad with her sister since her high school days, she is welcomed in LA by her best friend, Gabby, and she moves in with her and her husband for a while until she decides what to do with her life.

Then Gabi and Mark take Hannah to a party where Gabby called several people who studied with them in high school. And there Hannah ends up meeting with Ethan, her ex-boyfriend whom she never got over. At the end of the party Ethan will invite her to stay a little longer at the party with him, when Gabby and Mark invite Hannah to leave.

From that moment on the realities will split and we will have two timelines being narrated. One in which Hannah hooked up with Ethan at the party and logically ended up with him in his apartment, and the other in which she left with Gabby and Mark and ended up getting hit on the way home, spending weeks and weeks in a hospital, unable to move. There she meets a nurse who will eventually become her new love interest.
In both lines many things end up happening but not in the same way. I would say it’s even funny to follow these similarities.

The ending brings us a very optimistic reflection about the choices we make in our lives and I really liked how Taylor handled the resolution of the story. Of all the books that deal with the theme of time, this one certainly stood out for having this more open and optimistic ending. I couldn’t help remembering Fractured, but the ending and the central message of the stories are completely different.

It’s really worth reading and I recommend it to everyone who enjoys this temporal theme as much as I do.
