REMINDERS OF HIM – Colleen Hoover

Oh yes, eu já li, e OMG estou tendo minha primeira ressaca literária do ano por conta desta história, que COM CERTEZA estará nas melhores leituras de 2022.

Confesso que apesar de saber que Colleen sempre me surpreende, este livro em específico conseguiu ultrapassar qualquer expectativa que eu tenha criado a respeito dele, pois  não poderia eu imaginar o tanto que iria me apegar a todos os personagens desta história.

Nós iremos acompanhar tudo sobre o ponto de vista de 2 personagens, Kenna e Ledger. Kenna acabou de sair da prisão onde ficou os últimos 5 anos por ter supostamente matado seu namorado Scotty em um acidente de carro, e Ledger era o melhor amigo de Scotty.

Kenna está de volta a cidade onde tudo aconteceu pois quer tentar conhecer sua filha de 4 anos e pouco que está sendo criada pelos avós. Mas estes querem distância dela, pois o ódio pelo que ela fez ao filho deles ainda está muito latente para ser esquecido.

Kenna ira cruzar com Ledger sem saber que ele é ele. E algo quase irá rolar entre os dois antes que ela descubra quem ele é.  Ledger irá descobrir quem Kenna realmente é e também irá maltratá-la de início pois compartilha do mesmo ódio dos avós. Porém quanto mais ele a conhece – e nós também – mais fica difícil entender e aceitar que ela realmente teve intenção de matar Scotty e que é essa pessoa tão horrível que ele sempre achou que ela fosse.

Colleen consegue construir personagens que são tão próximos a pessoas da vida real, com todas as suas falhas, que você chega a ter impressão que está vivendo a história junto com todos. Absolutamente todas as atitudes de todos ali são compreensíveis, e isso te leva a torcer por um determinado final porém saber que irá entender caso ele não se concretize, porque você saber o quanto é difícil se perdoar e perdoar as outras pessoas.

Sim meus queridos, esta é uma história primordialmente a respeito do perdão, o auto-perdão e o perdão ao próximo. É sobre se colocar no lugar do outro e tentar entender versões diferentes das suas. É sobre compaixão e amor.

Nós acompanhamos tudo ali com o coração na mão. Ao mesmo tempo que vamos conhecendo Kenna melhor junto com Ledger e vendo que talvez tudo tenha sido apenas um infortúnio de um dia e ela não seja tão má quanto muitos pensam, também entendemos o fato dos pais de Scotty e de muita gente acreditar que a culpa foi toda dela e que ela não merece conhecer nem participar da vida da filha.

É difícil tomar partidos pois todo mundo já viveu situações em que sua compaixão e compreensão foram postas a prova, mesmo que tenham sido menos graves que esta.

Em suma meus caros, preparem-se para fortes emoções pois isso tudo poderia estar acontecendo aí do seu lado.

Deixo aqui meus parabéns a Colleen por ter conseguido construir e desenvolver personagens com tanta profundidade que fica difícil traçar essa linha da ficção para esta história. Colleen você arrrasou mulher!

Oh yes, I already read it, and OMG I’m having my first literary hangover of the year because of this story, which will CERTAINLY be one of the best reads of 2022.

I confess that although I know Colleen always surprises me, this particular book managed to exceed any expectation I could have about it, because I couldn’t imagine how much I would get attached to all the characters in this story.

We will follow everything from the point of view of two characters, Kenna and Ledger. Kenna is just out of prison where she has been for the last 5 years for allegedly killing her boyfriend Scotty in a car accident, and Ledger was Scotty’s best friend.

Kenna is back in the town where it all happened because she wants to try to meet her 4-year-old daughter who is being raised by her grandparents (Scottys parents). But they want to distance themselves from her, because the hatred for what she did to their son is still too strong to be forgotten.

Kenna will cross paths with Ledger without knowing it is him. And something will almost happen between them before she finds out who he is. Ledger will  also discover who Kenna really is and will mistreat her at first because he shares the same hatred Scotty’s parents have for her. But the more he gets to know her – and the more we get to know her – the harder it becomes to understand and accept that she really meant to kill Scotty and that she is this horrible person that he always thought she was.

Colleen manages to build characters that are so close to real life people, with all their flaws, that you feel like you are living the story along with them. Absolutely all the attitudes of everyone there are understandable, and this makes you hope for a certain ending but know that you will understand if it doesn’t come true, because you know how hard it is to forgive yourself and to forgive others.

Yes, my dears, this is a story primarily about forgiveness, self-forgiveness, and forgiving others. It’s about putting yourself in the other person’s shoes and trying to understand different versions of yourself. It’s about compassion and love.

We follow everything there with our hearts in our hands. As we get to know Kenna better along with Ledger and see that maybe it was all just a misfortune of a day and she is not as bad as many think, we also understand the fact that Scotty’s parents and many people believe that it was all her fault and that she does not deserve to know or participate in her daughter’s life.

It is hard to take sides because everyone has experienced situations where their compassion and understanding has been tested, even if they were less severe than this one.

In summary, my dear friends, be prepared for strong emotions because this could all be happening right there beside you.

I congratulate Colleen for managed to build and develop characters with such depth that it is difficult to draw the line from fiction to this story. Colleen, you nailed it!
