Mentira Perfeita – Carina Rissi

Mentira Perfeita – Carina Rissi

mentira-perfeita1

É algo que me deixou curiosa.

The reading was certainly one of the hottest moments of my month. A super lightweight book, authentic romantic comedy because although it deals with several controversial subjects never loses that light and good aspect of the narrative. My opinion, immeasurably better than Procura-se Um Marido. Not that the first one is not cool, but this spin-off is immensely better finished in the plots and the characters and events are much more striking – Carina’s evolution as a writer is evident and I loved the spicy scenes she added in the story. I found it totally pertinent and again light.

The story is a spin-off because the main characters are Marcus (Max’s brother in Procura-se Um Marido) and Júlia, who is an employee of L & L, company that Alicia’s grandfather left for her when he died. Although Max and Alicia have nothing to do directly with the events of the main story from Mentira Perfeita they appear at various moments in it because of their connection with the characters Marcus and Julia.

Finally, the plot of Mentira Perfeita revolves around a lie that Julia tells Aunt Berenice, who was on the verge of death and miraculously gets better. She says she had found a perfect boyfriend, the dream man Aunt Berê always sees in the movies. As soon as Aunt Berê leaves the hospital, she spends everything she had saved to hire the niece’s dream wedding, and then Julia is trapped without being able to cancel this contract, and fearing that her aunt will get worse if she finds out the lie Julia finds a fake boyfriend, Marcus, to introduce to her. Marcus also needs someone to pretend to be his “caretaker” since he wants to live alone and the family does not leave him because of his new condition in a wheelchair after the motorcycle accident that he suffered 3 years before and because of a misunderstanding that led everyone to believe that he wanted to kill himself.

The problem is that the lie will kind of become true, and both characters will have to deal with their feelings and ghosts in order to solve their situation.

Carina addresses several controversial issues throughout the story, but for me the most striking was the reality of a person who lives in the wheelchair. The story is being told from the point of view of both Julia and Marcus, and it is very funny to notice how in Julia’s narratives this is a mere detail that she almost never remembers since her focus is totally on Marcus’s personality, different from Marcus that narrates several things that are from a wheelchair reality and sometimes his feelings about it. I was extremely curious to see this reality, because despite crossing with several wheelchairs out there, I never saw any descended from an adapted car for example. It’s something that made me curious. Also whenever I go in bathrooms and see the adapted to the wheelchair ones I am very curious to know how functional everything is for them.

By the way, this subject reminded a lot about Feliz Ano Velho. I thought about rereading. One of the most remarkable books of my adolescence. Maybe one day I should talk about it in the blog. I even have a photo with Marcelo Rubens Paiva, who I loved since reading this book and almost freaked out when I discovered that I had studied in the same college he had done a master’s degree, which is where I met him in person.
