Meu querido meio irmão – Penelope Ward (Step Brother Dearest)

Primeiro livro da Penelope Ward que leio e com certeza será o primeiro de muitos pois a surpresa foi grande com esse. (ainda mais porque compramos ele por ZERO reais e decidimos ler no clube do livro de última hora) Amazon, I love you!

Para começar preciso comentar sobre o título, que pra nós aqui do Brasil tem um significado um pouco diferente – é a tradução foi meio ruim Nós denominamos de meio irmão uma pessoa que tem ou o mesmo pai ou a mesma mãe em comum. Quando os filhos são de pais diferentes, mesmo estes se casando ninguém chama o outro de irmão por aqui. Lá nos EUA eles usam o termo step brother, que na verdade não significa meio irmão né, step aí significa algo como postiço, que foi adicionado depois, não de sangue. Enfim, ignorem o título e foquem na história, porque essa, meus amigos, não deixou nada a desejar.

Que história envolvente! Eu me vi presa ao livro e desejando incessantemente saber como Alec e Greta iriam conseguir ficar juntos.

O livro é dividido em 2 partes. Na primeira veremos Alec indo morar com seu pai (o qual ele tem uma relação péssima-e entenderemos o motivo no final do livro) enquanto sua mãe vai passar um ano dando aula na Europa.

Seu pai casou-se novamente com a mãe de Greta, e enfim, Alec cheio de raiva por achar que seu pai traia sua mãe com a mãe de Greta vem morar com eles com sede de vingança. Ele está disposto a irritar Greta o máximo possível para retribuir todo perrengue que já passou por culpa do pai. Mass, seu plano não vai sair muito como o esperado.

Quando se conhecem Greta e Alec sentem algo diferente um pelo outro, e embora Alec tente esconder isso por um bom tempo minha gente, uma hora essa corda vai ceder…e como vai ser gostoso acompanhar isso! Ambos irão passar de proto-inimigos para amantes de apenas uma noite, já que Alec se vê obrigado a voltar para a mãe na Califórnia antes do esperado por um acontecimento repentino.

Seguiremos para a 2a parte do livro que se passa 7 anos após essa primeira e última noite deles.

Greta mora em NYC mas é obrigada a voltar para sua cidade por causa de um acontecimento trágico que irá fazer os dois se encontrarem novamente.

Esse reencontro vai mostrar que ambos se sentem atraídos como se tivessem se deixado na noite passada e não 7 anos atrás, mas Alec está namorando agora, e o compromisso é bem sério, e pior ainda, a namorada dele é muito gente boa! Gente, eu juro que não queria estar na pela da Greta.

Essa história me tirou a concentração de qualquer outra atividade. Eu não conseguia parar de ler mesmo. Fiquei apaixonada pelo casal, ambos os personagens muito bem desenvolvidos e a relação toda entre eles também.  A Penelope se mostrou o tipo de autora que consegue pegar um clichê e transformá-lo em obra prima.

Ansiosa para ler o próximo dessa autora. Esse tá mais do que recomendado!

PS. Alec curte escrever então já ganhou meu coração quando soube disso. Adoro meninos escritores, coisa mais adorável!

 

This is the Penelope Ward’s first book I read, and it will certainly be the first of many because the surprise was great with this one. (even more because we bought it for FREE and we decided to read it at the last minute in our book club) Amazon, I love you!

Just to begin, I need to tell something about the title, which for us in Brazil has a slightly different meaning – the translation was kind of bad   We call “half-brother” a person who has either the same father or the same mother in common. In the US they use the term step brother, which does not really mean half brother, step there means something like  added afterwards, not from the same blood. In summary, ignore the title and focus on the story, because this, my friends, left nothing to be desired.

What an engaging story! I found myself stuck in the book and wishing incessantly to know how Alec and Greta would be able to stay together.

The book is divided into 2 parts. At first we will see Alec going to live with his father (which he has a terrible relationship with – and we will understand the reason at the end of the book) while his mother will spend a year teaching in Europe.

His father married again with Greta’s mother, and finally, Alec, full of rage to think that his father betrayed his mother with Greta’s mother, goes living with them thinking about a revenge. He is willing to annoy Greta as much as possible to repay his father’s guilt. Buttt, his plan will not come out much as expected.

When they meet, Greta and Alec feel something different for each other, and although Alec tries to hide this for a long time, my people, one hour this mask will drop… and how will be nice to read it! Both will go from proto-enemies to  one night stand lovers, since Alec is forced to return to his mother in California earlier than expected due to a sudden event.

We will continue to the 2nd part of the book which takes place 7 years after that first one night stand.

Greta lives in NYC but is forced to return to her hometown because of a tragic event that will make the two meet again.

This reunion will show that both are attracted to each other as if their one night stand happened last night and not 7 years ago, but Alec is dating now, and the commitment is very serious, and worse, his girlfriend is really nice! Guys, I swear I did not want to be Greta.

This story took away the concentration of any other activity. I could not stop reading anyway. I was in love with the couple, both characters very well developed and the whole relationship between them as well. Penelope was the kind of author who can take a cliché and turn it into a masterpiece.

Eager to read this author’s next book. This one is more than recommended!
