Nove Desconhecidos – Liane Moriarty (Nine Perfect Strangers)

Um spa que promete mudar sua vida em apenas uma estadia e nove pessoas de diferentes personalidades e backgrounds se reúnem em uma temporada de 10 dias lá. E você só tem uma certeza lendo, alguma coisa de errado tem ali.

No começo da história temos uma amostra da vida de Masha quando ela ainda era uma executiva importante de uma empresa multinacional, mas após um episódio traumático de saúde, ela acaba mudando de vida, e anos mais tarde após re-significar tudo que acreditava abre o spa chamado Tranquilium House.

Descobrimos então que Yao, o paramédico que ajuda Masha no início da história, trabalha no spa junto com uma moça chamada Delilah.

Os três recepcionam os hóspedes e  explicam como será o programa dos 10 dias seguintes. Mas algumas atitudes deles e outros pequenos acontecimentos nos levam a levantar suspeitas acerca desse programa. E como eu disse há sim um mistério por trás de tudo e iremos descobrir o que é até o final da história.

Mas embora a gente leia e fiquei curiosa para saber o que de fato está acontecendo no spa, são os personagens e suas histórias particulares que são a verdadeira atração do livro.

A partir do momento que você conhece a história de cada um você passa a torcer para que eles todos consigam resolver os conflitos que os trouxeram até ali, e o estilo Liane está presente aí, pois o livro é narrado em 3a pessoa porém a cada capítulo vamos sabendo um pouco mais dos sentimentos, pensamentos e histórias de cada um dos hóspedes.

Entre eles estão uma escritora com mais de 50 anos que está no meio de uma crise em sua carreira, um senhor barrigudo que iremos descobrir já foi muito famoso, uma família que está prestes a viver o aniversário de morte de um ente muito querido, um casal milionário que está em crise no casamento, uma mulher com 3 filhas recém divorciada e um advogado que está fugindo da exigência do marido de terem um filho.

Além destas histórias conheceremos ainda as histórias de Yao, Masha e Delilah e os motivos para cada um estar fazendo o que faz.

O maior livro que li da Liane até agora e pra mim tão bom quanto os outros. Confesso que fui surpreendida em muitos momentos e isso é apenas um dos fatores que me faz sempre ter vontade de ler mais coisa dela. Recomendo demais esta leitura!

A spa that promises to change your life in just one season, and nine people with  different personalities and backgrounds come together in a 10-day stay. And you are only sure about one thing while you read, something is wrong there.

At the beginning of the story we have a sample of Masha’s life when she was still an important executive of a multinational company, but after a traumatic episode of health, she ends up changing her life, and years later after re-meaning everything she believed she opens a spa called Tranquilium House.

We then discovered that Yao, the paramedic who helped Masha at the beginning of the story, works at the spa as well as a girl called Delilah.
The three welcome guests and explain how the program for the next 10 days will be. But some of their attitudes and other small events lead us to raise suspicions about this program. And as I said there is a mystery behind everything and we will find out what it is until the end of the story.
But although we read and I was curious to know what is actually happening at the spa, it is the characters and their particular stories that are the real attraction of the book.

From the moment you know the story of each one you hope that they can all resolve the conflicts that brought them there, and the Liane style is present in this point, because the book is narrated in 3rd person but in each chapter we learn a little more about the feelings, thoughts and stories of each guest.

Among them are a writer of 50 something years who is in the middle of a crisis in her career, a oversized gentleman that we will discover was already very famous, a family that is about to live the anniversary of the death of a very loved one, a millionaire couple under a marriage crisis, a woman with 3 daughters recently divorced and a lawyer who is kind of running away of his husband’s requirement to have a child.

In addition to these stories, we will also know the stories of Yao, Masha and Delilah and the reasons for each one be doing what they are doing.

This is the biggest book I’ve read from Liane so far and for me it’s as good as the others. I confess that I was surprised in many moments and that was just one of the factors that makes me always want to read more books from her. I highly recommend this reading!
