A Garota Que Você Deixou Pra Trás – Jojo Moyes (The girl you left behind)

Um livro que me surpreendeu pelo fato da Jojo conseguir prender sua atenção em duas histórias.
O livro conta a história de Sophie Lefèvre que se passa durante a 1a Guerra Mundial e depois muda para os anos 2000 contando a história de Liv Halston, a qual possui um quadro em seu poder que era de Sophie. O quadro é um retrato de Sophie e foi pintando por seu marido antes dos dois se casarem em 1912.
A história vai girar em torno de 2 principais mistérios : o que aconteceu com Sophie em 1916 e se Liv tem realmente direito em ter o quadro nos dias atuais.
Não posso falar mais que isso para não estragar as surpresas. Só sei que li o texto todo morrendo de vontade de saber principalmente o que aconteceu com Sophie, e enfim, fiquem tranquilos quanto a isso porque Jojo dá um final para a história dela.
Como eu ando assistindo Downtown Abbey esses últimos tempos fiquei toda toda lendo a parte mais antiga do livro.
Acho engraçado ressaltar aqui que por mais partes tristes que as histórias tenham não achei nem essa e nem a Como Eu Era Antes de Você histórias tristes. Eu gostei muito das temáticas de ambas, e achei que a Jojo consegue desenvolver muito bem os temas a que se propõe.
Muitos discordarão de mim, a maioria de minhas amigas que leram as histórias já comentaram que acharam as duas lindas e tristes, mas sei lá, ultimamente eu ando pensando muito nas mensagens principais a que uma história se propõe como principal fator para me dizer se a história é triste ou não. Na maioria das vezes acabo concluindo que o triste nem sempre é tão triste quanto parece.
Vamos ver se poderei dizer a mesma coisa de uma série que estou lendo atualmente (em breve resenhas a respeito aqui, com certeza). O primeiro livro já anuncia coisas muito tristes. Estou com aquele sentimento que quando eu menos esperar vou estar derramando lágrimas em cima das páginas hehehe.

Comentários com spoiler sobre esse livro que eu gostaria de fazer são que eu achava totalmente que o Commandant seria alguém ruim no final e que Sophie teria acabado como sei lá, muitos reféns e inocentes acabaram na época. Mas eu me surpreendi. A autora constrói a história toda para deixar você conformada em saber que provavelente Sophie morreu sozinha e desamparada por culpa dos alemães, você chega em determinado ponto do livro a meio que se conformar com esse final, mas daí eis que ela nos surpreende com uma final muito lindo. Achei muito legal.
E eu adorei toda a história da Liv. Embora eu ache que qualquer pessoa no lugar dela na vida real não teria ido tão longe quanto ela foi, eu acredito que foi toda essa 2a história e o início de um novo romance dela que deram leveza ao livro como um todo.

A book that surprised me since Jojo was able to hold your attention on two stories at the same time.
The book tells the story of Sophie Lefevre set during the first World War and then switches to the 2000s telling the story of Liv Halston, which has a painting in her possession that was from Sophie. The painting is a picture of Sophie and was painted by her husband before the two got married in 1912.
The story will be developed with two main mysteries: what happened to Sophie in 1916 and if Liv really has the right to have the picture nowadays.
I can not tell more than that to not spoil the surprises. I only know what I read the whole text dying to know particularly what happened to Sophie, and to not disappoint me, Jojo gives an end to her story.
As I’m currently watching Downtown Abbey these past few weeks I was all smiles to read the “old” part of the book.
I think it’s funny to let it registered that even the two stories I’ve read from Jojo having a lot of sad parts neither this nor Me Before You were sad stories to me. I liked the themes of both, and I thought that Jojo can develop very well the issues she proposes.
Many will disagree with me, in fact most of my friends who also read these two stories told they were both beautiful and sad, but you know, lately I’ve been thinking a lot on the main messages that a story proposes to tell as the main factor to tell if story is sad or not. Most of the time I end up concluding that the sad thing is not always sad as it seems.
Let’s see if I can say the same thing of a series I’m currently reading (soon review about it here, for sure). The first book has already announced very sad things. I have the feeling that when I least expect I’ll be dropping tears over the pages hehehe.

Comments with spoiler about this book I would like to make is that I totally believed that the Commandant would be someone bad in the end and that Sophie would end as many innocent hostages had ended up at the time. But I was surprised. The author builds the whole story to let you believe that Sophie probably died alone and helpless thanks to the Germans, and at a certain point of the book (in the middle) you’re kind of used to this end, but then she surprises us with a very beautiful end. Very cool.
I did loved Liv’s story. Although I think that anyone in her place in real life would not have gone as far as she went because of the painting, I believe it was this whole second story and the beginning of a new romance of her that gave lightness to the book as a whole.
